INSTRUCTIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS

Register today by CLICKING HERE.

Then …

1) Within 24 hours you will receive an email from PledgeIt.org, our burpee challenge fundraising platform. Follow the instructions in the email to log in to your campaign. If you do receive an email from PledgeIt.org, please email Andrew Jeffery at ajeffery@walkingpalms.org.

2) Personalize your campaign by uploading a photo, updating your target burpee amount or the story your donors will see. We pre-filled this information for you, but change it as you see fit.

3) Promote your campaign with THIS LINK or the personal link you received via email.

Donors can make pledges either per burpee (ie, $1 per burpee) or make a flat donation (say $50).

See the fundraising guide below for tips on getting your friends and family excited about the event.

4) Train! Do burpees, crunches, run, cycle, swim – get your body ready for two intense minutes of burpees. Rusty? Check out THIS VIDEO for the type of burpee we’re doing for this contest.

5) Nominate your friends! The more participants we have, the more food and supplies can go out to families here in Ecuador. Record yourself grinding out burpees and call people out.

6) Keep promoting your campaign! Don’t be bashful, you’re raising money for an important program – this is an opportunity for your community to play a role in mitigating the devastating impact COVID is having on the world’s most vulnerable communities. Keep your campaign front and center on your social media feeds.

7) Compete in Burpees for Bahia on Saturday July 18th 2020! Record your two minutes of burpees and post to Twitter or Instgram with the hashtag #BurpeesForBahia. Our team will verify your results and input your burpee count into the PledgeIt platform to calculate your total donations.

8) Results will be tallied and distributed, and prizes awarded by the end of the day Monday July 20th.

FUNDRAISING GUIDE

We know that fundraising isn’t easy, and that it can be difficult or awkward to ask your friends and family to donate money to an organization they may not know. We’re here to help! Here are five fundraising tips to help your campaign be a success:

1) Make it about them

Especially during this time with many organizations asking for donations, your ‘ask’ needs stand out. Instead of focusing on the ‘need,’ which can often get lost in a sea of other worthy causes, make it about your donors. Talk about an opportunity to contribute, a chance to make a difference. Research shows that when people are feeling worried or sad, helping others (including donating) is a proven way to improve your own mental health. Be proud to offer this opportunity to your network!

2) Make it about you

More than likely, your friends and family will be donating primarily to support you. Absent a personal connection to the program or cause in question, most donors choose to support people they know and trust in endeavors that are important to those people. Embrace this! Talk about your connection to Bahia, your career, your passions – clearly articulate to your network why this is important to you.

3) Be persistent

Research about persistence among sales professionals has shown that after a fourth request, a large portion of people who previously said no will change their mind and say yes. However, most salespeople give up after the third request.

People are busy and distracted, so your messages may get missed multiple times by even your well-intentioned friends and family. Remember you are offering an opportunity to be part of the solution!

4) Be creative

Know your way around a video editor? Make a cool video of you doing burpees to include in your post. Do burpees in a costume, do them with your friends or kids. Getting your post noticed is the first step to the donations rolling in.

5) Be your first donor

Kick your campaign off with a donation of your own, however small. FOMO is real, and if potential donors see that other people are jumping in, they’re more likely to become part of the solution. Even better, make personal requests to your close friends and family to be the first series of donors, so when your broadcast messages go out, your network sees that your campaign already has momentum.
