Nursing students from University of San Francisco will be coming down to learn about public health and engage in some of our many projects in global health. They will be engaging in our diabetes and hypertension screenings, nutrition counselling, community garden and health project in collaboration with Planet Drum, and our visits and with the local senior center, where we engage in dance and yoga therapy.
We will be traveling to Junco, a community faced with poverty, addiction, and HIV, to continue our Musica y Paz Therapy program with kids ages 6-10. The program focuses on leadership, how to express oneself outward and inwardly, and gives kids the ability to share their feelings in a safe space. The program focuses on providing kids with new musical skills, such as learning melody, harmony, and rhythm. We also preach healthy mind, healthy body, and and provide the kids with nutritious snacks.
