Diabetes and Hypertension
Through our insulin and hypertension screenings we are able to identify individuals with diabetes, and get their blood sugar levels under control. Untreated diabetes can lead to complications such as cardiovascular issues, eye damage, nerve damage (neuropathy), kidney damage (nephropathy), and more. With the aid of our donors, we are able to supply our diabetic patients with insulin, educate them how to use it and about their disease, and keep their diabetes in check with regular follow ups.
Through our screenings, hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is noted. This allows us to work with the patient to further identify the cause of hypertension, and encourage them to seek care. It is important for these screenings to take place, as hypertension can often occur with little to no symptoms. If it is left untreated long term, it can lead to heart cardiovascular damage, such as heart disease or aneurysms.
